Lewis Turkington alongside his attendees for the event on Thursday 28th June at Whilton Mill
The track was busy, the energy was high, and the mission was clear. We were thrilled to host the Driving Dyslexia Forward (DDF) Club for their first-ever event here at Whilton Mill.
This event was a perfect day that highlighted exactly what the club is all about: using the intensity of Motorsport to build confidence, resilience, and a new way of approaching challenges.
On display throughout the day were Lewis Turkington’s BRSCC Fiesta Junior race car alongside his brother Adam Turkington’s British Autograss Series race car, giving visitors a chance to get up close to the machinery and speak with the Turkington family about their racing journeys.

The event was a high-energy experience that began with guest arrivals and registration, followed by a few words in the Clubhouse before a thorough briefing session.
The on-track action saw Lewis host two qualifying sessions and two exciting finals around the Whilton Mill circuit. For many attendees, it was their very first experience in a kart, making the day more memorable. Whilst the weather was very warm and lovely, spirits remained high as drivers took to the grid, made new friends and gained confidence throughout the event.

The day concluded with lunch and a series of special talks, including words from Lewis Turkington’s mother Louise Turkington & BRSCC Fiesta Junior Championship Co-Ordinator Esther Crook, who shared a few words about encouraging young people and using motorsport as the environment to encourage them to find their strengths.

To end the event, there was an engaging Q&A session featuring Lewis and four-time British Touring Car Champion Colin Turkington, hosted by Aimee Watts.

This was exactly what we hoped the club would be about, bringing people together, building confidence and showing that dyslexia should never stop anyone chasing their goals. Seeing people who had never even sat in a kart before out on track enjoying themselves was brilliant. I think that’s what we need to do with these events, to encourage young people to try new things! – Lewis Turkington’s reflection after the event
